About AutoRates

Financing a car is one of the biggest purchases most people make, yet the interest rate on the loan is often an afterthought. A single percentage point can add hundreds or even thousands of dollars to what you pay over the life of a loan. AutoRates exists to make that number easy to see and easy to beat.

We collect the advertised annual percentage rates from banks, credit unions and online lenders and organize them by loan type and term. For every lender, you can see its current rates, how they compare with the single best rate on the market and the average of the five best, and how they have moved over time.

Numbers are only part of the story, so we also publish rate news, plain-English guides and reviews from real borrowers. Verified members can rate lenders and share their experience, which helps everyone spot the lenders that are as good to work with as their headline rate suggests.
